SharePoint 2007 .. strange problem

I had a SharePOint 2007 server setup on my own VMWare environment, and it was working OK when I set it up several months ago. But while ago I turned it back on, and it give error message on the SharePoint 2007 local home page. I was so puzzled. Then I tried to open "SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration, and I got the same "Unknown page error" message. Finally I ran "SharePoint Products and technologies Configuration Wizard. And then I was able to start up the the "Central Adminiatrion". Then I use the Central Administration to create a new SharePoint site at different port. Not only then that the new site is working (I do need to start a command line something like "iistart /noforce" twice.

After then, not only the new site is working, but the old site (http://sps2k7test/Pages/Default.aspx) is also working.

So .. .freaking strange.
